Neatness draft In the Story of Antigone, there are different displays of loyalty and hurberus, for one of the two main characters Antigone it’s her loyalty to her family and gods, for the other (Creano) it’s his loyalty to his state. In the story, Antigone shows her loyalty to her family and gods by burying her brother Polynieces, even thought there was a law passed saying no one is to bury his body. She voices her loyalty when she says, (36. 774) “Creano is not strong enough to stand in my way.” she continues to also say, “But I will bury him and if I must die, I say this crime is holy: I shall lie down with him, and I shall be as dear to him as he is to me.“(.816. 56-60). The use of the contents of the words when she says “dear to me as I am to him.” shows her loyalty is so great that she is willing to die for her brother. When she says “holy crime” she means that it’s the will of the gods/the law of the gods she also stands by this in her time of conflict when Creano asks “did you do it” she points out this law on .783 .65 when she says “It was the gods proclamation That final justice that rules the world below make no such law.” what she is saying here, is the crime shouldn’t be crime it was for the work of the gods and points out that what creano said ,was a lie from the pits of hell that the laws he passed wasn’t just. Creano’s loyalty is to is to his state, in the story he says, (777.8) “No one values a friendship more highly than I but we must remember that friendships make at the risk of wreaking our ship are not real friendships at all.” To sum up the quote what he is saying, is that I’m sold out to the sate that I’m willing to shut every one out and cut every tie to keep the state. He also proves his loyalty, when he tells his son (702) “I suppose she’ll plead “family ties” well let her if I permit my own family to rebel, how shall I earn the world’s obeisance?” , Show me a man who keeps his house over his state and is fit to lead. What he is saying in the quota is just, what do you want me to look like a fool in front of everybody? What he also trying to convey a message that is, to cut ties to keep your stand and not change to not be moved or change so easy to keep your state of your family to put your state first and family last or as we can see in a more modern seen “work first ,family second “. The downfall of both Antigone and Creano’s if huberus. Creano’s huberus was his power trip he tells his sentry (778.61) “And death it is: yet money talks, and the wisest have sometimes been known to count few coins too many.” He is also he tells the blind profit Teiresias, “The generation of prophets have always loved gold.” What’s he’s doing is just assuming things with his power that people are coming agents him. Antigone’s hurberus is the stubbornness of not moving and keeping to what she did when she tells Creano,” I do. I deny nothing.” She voices a bit of regret or complains when see says “O Thebes O man many charioteain love with fortune, Dear spring of dried scared the grave, be witness , for me denied all pity, unjust just: and no more tears. Basically what she is getting at is she saying, people just look at how messed up this is, but she also saying to I’m being punished for what I stand for the love and loyalty to family and gods. Both of there huberus resulted in death. This story is a story of: self reflection, don’t mess with forces greater than your own (i.e. the gods) and don’t let pride and power over cloud your ability to think. The story also shows how you shouldn’t stick with just a rash desertion how you should think about a move and take advice about a predicament you’re in. I believe this story is relevant to even today society. If give a chance to recommend this play I would because it has a lot of every useful info today’s worlds.
